FAQ

Was Gemmel Moore a prostitute?

The family of Gemmel Moore accepts the fact that he was engaged in sex work.  However, there is more to Gemmel than this one aspect of his life.

Are all of the other victims of Ed Buck's prostitutes?

No, not all of Ed Buck's victims were in engaged in sex work.

There is nothing to suggest that Timothy Dean was engaged in sex work at the time of his death.  In fact, he worked as a fashion consultant.

Was Timothy Dean an adult film star?

What does it matter if he was or wasn't?

Did Ed Buck have sex with Gemmel Moore and his victims?

According to what the family and attorney know from Gemmel Moore and the other victims, Buck was not interested in having sexual intercourse with them.  He paid Moore and other young Black gay men to do crystal meth specifically, wear specific types of underwear that he would photograph them in and to allow him to call them "nigger" and other racially slurs.  Ed Buck requested oral sex on occasion.

Were the victims of Ed Buck HIV positive?

Many--but not all--of the victims of Ed Buck are HIV positive and have confirmed that Ed Buck knew they were positive because he asked them.

Is there an active homicide investigation?

In 2017, Gemmel Moore's death was immediately classified as an accidental methamphetamine overdose by the coroner.  19 days later after Moore’s journal was publicly published by journalist Jasmyne Cannick and appeared in news reports, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s homicide bureau opened an investigation.  On July 26, 2018, the District Attorney's office declined to prosecute Buck in Moore's death citing not enough admissible evidence.

Allegedly Moore's homicide investigation was re-opened on January 7 after the death of Timothy Dean at Ed Buck's apartment so technically there are allegedly two homicide investigations currently underway.

What did the coroner's autopsy report find?

The Los Angeles County coroner’s report says that Gemmel Moore died from an accidental methamphetamine overdose July 27 in the Laurel Avenue home of Ed Buck. The drug was injected into his body.   Police indicated that someone at the scene “is suspected to be known to exchange drugs for sex."

The report says that coroner’s investigators interviewed a woman, whose name is redacted, who said Moore told her that someone whose name is also redacted tied him up “over a year ago” and “held him against his will at the residence in West Hollywood.”

The report indicates that an investigator spoke with Moore’s mother.

According to the report, a coroner’s investigator found the following items in Buck’s two-bedroom apartment: 24 syringes with brown residue, five glass pipes with white residue and burn marks, a plastic straw with possible white residue, clear plastic bags with white powdery residue and a clear plastic bag with a “piece of crystal-like substance.”

Timothy Dean was unresponsive for at least 15 minutes before anyone called 911, according to his autopsy report. The coroner’s report Dean died Jan 7. of methamphetamine and alcohol toxicity. The death was accidental, and the drugs appeared to have been injected, according to the report.

Like with Gemmel Moore, Dean’s body was lying partially on a mattress on the floor of Buck’s living room, which was strewn with clothing and sex toys. Three large mirrors were propped up against the walls of the living room.

Investigators collected three sealed glass vials, three syringes and two glass pipes. One of the pipes contained methamphetamine. One of the vials was labeled “naloxone,” which is a medication used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

Investigators also found two pieces of thick, clear plastic tubing near Dean’s body, according to the report.

What has Ed Buck been accused of by the other victims?

Other young Black gay men have come forward with photos, emails, and text messages recounting similar stories involving Buck and accusing him of being a sexual predator, kidnapping, forced drug use, injecting unconscious black gay men with crystal meth, filing false police reports to cover his crimes, coercion, pimping, and pandering.

Is Ed Buck still doing this?

Not since he was arrested on September 17, 2019.

Why hasn't Ed Buck been charged by Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey?

Your guess is as good as ours.

“The longer Ed Buck remains a free man, the more likely there will be a third man to die in that apartment.”
